Exponential CMS has a granular permission system — users belong to groups, groups get roles, and roles define exactly what can be created, edited, or published. Here is how to manage accounts in Exponential 6.x.
Create a New User
- Log in to the admin interface.
- Go to the Admin tab and open Users.
- Choose the user group the account should belong to — e.g. Editors or Administrator users.
- Click Create, fill in name, email, username, and password, then publish.
Roles and Permissions
- User groups organize accounts by function — editors, administrators, members.
- Roles (under Admin → Roles) define allowed actions: read, create, edit, publish, remove — and can be limited to specific sections of the content tree.
- Assign roles to groups rather than individuals to keep management simple: members inherit the group’s permissions automatically.
Common Tasks
- Reset a password: open the user under Admin → Users and update their account details.
- Remove access: move the user out of privileged groups or unassign their roles rather than deleting the account — this keeps their content history intact.
- Audit regularly: review who holds administrator rights; keep that list short.
Legacy Admin Alternative
The classic admin interface also manages users via the User accounts tab — the same groups, roles, and policies apply, since both interfaces work on the same underlying permission system.
